GREEN HOUSE

THE GREENHOUSE - JADE VINES
In February it is very cold in Tokyo. So I visited the greenhouse in Shinjuku Gyoen. I visited it because I found information that my favorite plant, Jade vines are blooming now.
It is a bit early still, but I could see my favorite. In the wild they grow in the tropical rain forest in the Philippine. The beautiful color has a secret..... the bats are the pollinator of Jade vine and the color is the bats favorite. It has taken a long time, the color becomes the bats favorite color for attracting them. But at their autogenesis site they are endangered..
Now there are 1740000 species of live on this planet. We are one of them. The biodiversity of organisms is becoming lost because of human activities...
A quarter of the wild plants in Japan are endangered. Not only food web, they live together symbolically and live on being parasitic. So one plant extinct in the wild, other plants live together it becomes extinct too.
In Japan there are 300 kinds of orchid species. But 70% of wild orchids are endangered and 4 species already extincted. Almost all orchids are entomophilous flowers. They are developed for being pollinated efficiency to suite the size and behavior of insects. Only special insects pollinate, so if they become extinct, the rest becomes extincted too.....
At the greenhouse of Shinjuku Gyoen is the birthplace of cultivating western orchids. There are twenty types of orchids they made and they put effort into cultivate old varieties and pure breed. And they cultivate of endangered plants and collect and save their seeds.
The greenhouse is a treasure of plants. We can enjoy the plants of tropical rain forest and feel the energy of live........
